Why we use* instead of × for multiplication

probably because '*' is better understood by the computer than 'x'

If 'x' is used, "axb" may return the value of a variable axb or a multiplied by b (which is why I place spaces: "a * b", just to be clear).

Yes Samuel, axb looks like a word ... a * b is better for clarity

because, the programm understands x as a variable like y , a or b.
