Will artificial intelligence in the future replace programmers? What can programmers do then?

That depends, although computers can mimic and perform some human tasks better and with higher efficiency, at the end of the day they are still machines, some human traits like innovation and ingenuity are near impossible to recreate and these traits are what make a programmer, a programmer as such, unless you find a way to recreate the human brain that is self aware in a computer which could lead to the next skynet, I guess programmers are still safe for the time being

I completely agree with Jan Markus and as AIs will share their neural connection they all will become more and more powerful but each AI will be different from the other but still they will be one!!!! just imagine!!

I dont think they are gonna replace human workers completely, but I think they are going to help us solve tough programming problems in the future, kind of like an assistant.

I think the answer to that is yes, definitely. I agree with what Jan Markus said although I believe there will be a long transition period during which AI will replace increasing numbers of programmers as it learns exponentially. With its interconnected systems, what one AI learns, the rest will immediately know too. Eventually the point will arrive where it will go beyond what humans can comprehend and the world will be a very different place by then.
