What should we learn for a career?

just about to be made redundant, live in UK, got until March to start working on skills. I used to do Java and Grails (3 years ago, forgot it all) and then shell scripting (year ago, forgot) and in current role, sql and VBA. I have some time to re-skill but what to look at? what is popular, or maybe emerging in development world? on analyst side, is R good, or SAS? is .net better than learning Java again? is Web development worth it (js, html, css, jquery etc)? I am aimless right now :(
