Question

I recently realized that with lessons, you get a different amount of xp points for completing it. Some people have more points while I have, less or vice versa. How do you get more xp from a course?

If you're talking about that section in skills where it shows you your courses, XP can also be gained by completing challenged for those courses, which all add up in the end.

Those people gave the correct answers to all questions, they made few mistakes or did not make mistakes at all, so they got more XP. Also, XP is given for comment-related badges.

With the comments in the lessons (and the corresponding badges) you can also earn more XP in the courses.
