Should IT professionals know at least the basics of php?

Hi everyone! I am considering following this course (as a start). However, I am also learning Java and JavaScript and I don't want to spread my attention too thin. Still, I think php is a useful language for my purposes... which is (web) GIS / geo-IT.

Yes of course. PHP is a server sided scripting language. It is used as a communication tool between web and the database.

But, do not study php yet. Finish HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript first.

If you're searching for learning php only, you are pursuing the developer track so I recommend you html for (inputs and tables) then go ahead enter the php..if you're searching for Web designer you have to learn html html 5 css css3 Javascript.. either that or be a full stack and learn them all
