What is the daily work of a software programmer working in a company? What are the conditions of work?

I was wondering that there is no need to update the code daily then what does a daily worker do?
By conditions of work, I mean working hours, working environment, the way office is organised, etc.
I ask that because I have only coded random problems at home and have no idea of professional field.
