Are challenges relevant?

Many challenge questions seem designed to throw you for a loop. Makes it seem irrelevant, because if somebody coded like that, with no comments, I would imagine they wouldn't have a job very long. Just me? Or how can I find the training to answer these better? I'm here to learn how to code, not be stumped, and stomped.

Keep in mind it's a challenge not an examination Challenges boost you. Think out of the box.

would make sense without a timer, but thinking outside the box takes time. I think challenge questions should be based on level. I struggle with intermediate concepts, and have no interest in figuring out which insane road this or that loops into, and then following it down an if, with another loop embedded in it. All it does is make me shake my head at this point.
