Which language is best for back-end?

It depends.In my country most companies use .NET C# because of Microsoft.Java is also on of the most popular for enterprises, especially in UK.Startups here use mostly PHP and Node.JS which are also famous worldwide but opportunities for other back-end languages like Python (Django) and Ruby (on Rails) are limited. I would go for either C# or Java because there are also opportunities for junior developers with limited experience which is really rare for the other back-end languages.Also, although I like Python a lot I think Django framework is ugly.

It depends on what you are doing. For programms that are trimmed on performance you would rather use c/c++ for the backend. Also c/c++ are good if you have to work with adresses.
