constant variable is a contradiction

Why not just call it a constant? Adding "variable" seems contradicting.

Agree... I guess the historical use of the term "variable" is to mean 'some place in the cpu's memory to allocate a value'... Then quoting it as "constant" means (of course) that this piece of memory cannot be altered. The precise meaning of "constant variable" I find clear, though.
