These languages have no connection with eachother and are used for different puropses, thus, you dont have to..

JavaScript may be simpler, but it makes learning other languages more difficult. for example Java then C# .. Easy JavaScript then C# .. Hard If you intend to learn both, it is easier to go from Java to JavaScript than it is to go the other way

I suggest learning JavaScript first, just because it’s much simpler. But as ValentinHacker said, they do not relate at all.

Someone once said: "Java" is to "JavaScript" as "car" to "carpet", to clarify that. In my opinion, you'll understand OOP better with Java, but in JS you don't have to think about some stuff what you have to respect in Java, so JS is more easy.
