What is real use of cookie on the internet?

Internet cookies can be used for various purposes. Some examples: Storing details for ‘shopping carts’ belonging to online stores. Storing your username/passwords for websites, so you don't have to type them in again. Identify whether you have already visited a site. They can also also count how many times you have visited. They remember the last page or position you were on at the site. And so on.

cookie save information only on your browser. plz check when you login your facebook there is a check box (remembered me) if you check it and then press login, so browser save your textfield data and when you visit this page after logout it will directly log you in or give your written email in email textfield.
