As a game designer student, i will recommend you to start working on C# and Unity. You can also get some basic knowledge about what making a video game is, working on Scratch or Construct 2 ( where there is no "programing" but you can learn the logic of programation ).
Sorry if my english is no't correct, it is not my native langage. ( i am French )

I recomend you to use Unity with Javascript and C#
But if you are not familiar yet with those languages, you can use Construct 2. You can make your own game without any coding skill. But if you want to use external script, you can! Well, it's not really cheap ($129, but you can use it forever)
My personal experience with Construct: I can make a video game less than a month. Plus, once you exported it, you got the Windows, Mac, and Linux version. And if you want, you can use Intel XDK to compile your game to android and iOS

"what does it take?" years of determined learning, followed by years of patient and thorough planning, mixed with a very strong will, and self-determination
well, that's if you want to make your own game. you could always get a job at a dev company and work your way up, which would also take years of patience and lots of willpower.

@TheLuckyStar10 have you made a game before? I think it takes a bit more than just "know[ing] some programming languages". To start with, what does it mean to "know" a language? the games I've made took a lot of continual learning. after years of studying cpp, c# and python, I would still not say I "know" any of them, so I keep researching and learning.
sololearn is great for refreshing knowledge, and finding new topics to research further. it's also great to "taste" a variety of languages.
but you're gonna need a lot more than just sololearn.
keep stackoverflow, w3school, and all the official documentation on bookmarks, and prepare to dig around to find what you need.
and most of all, HAVE FUN and NEVER GIVE UP!

"I do know java though" java is to javascript what car is to carpet; the two are totally unrelated. definitely learn cpp, c# or javascript. You could totally also learn java, just realize that it isn't one that works well with unity, or unreal, if you decide you want to go that way. You can go anywhere from one of those, though. Personally I like c# through unity the most.

learn c++ programming language and a game engine such as Blender or open GL etcetera etcetera

I would use (c++, java, JavaScript, html , css) to create games but u would have to get a handle of how they would work on what u will be using.💝💝

I mean I know you can use swift to make iOS games, you just gotta know what platform you are dealing with and you gotta know what languages are used for that platform

Dedication, a plan, an income or support from something else (before first project), and a thick skull. It’s a tedious profession, the hardest part is getting it out there that you have a game. But seriously, the easiest part is learning, pick a language and go. The hard part is distributing and updating.
