Look, knowledge is free, certification is not free. Certificate is necessary if you want to show off your expertise for some job or else. For that you'll have to spend some money. If you can go for such a thing, Oracle gives OCJP certification in Java.

Well if you still want certificate for free, search for any Java course on edX. EdX honour code certificate is available without cost. But verified certificate costs money

Free courses are available at edX, coursera, codeacademy, etc. However verified certificate comes at a premium.

As I know, there are many internet courses, where you can get their certificates online and free. But only in file (in pdf usually.) Of course, when you want to have it printed and send it by post, it is paied.
And the second way, there are such guaranteed, certificated courses. For example in universitas, or big developer companies. But there are not full internet online, you have to take a exam personally. And get a certificate after. This is paied too. Or you can ask your employer to paid it.
