Is formal education necessary for a career in tech?

I don't have a degree in this field so I wonder if I should pursue it or not

Programming is one of those fields where it doesn't matter if you have a bachelor's, doctorate, or none (though they would help, probably). Just because you might have a doctorate in computer science doesn't mean you can code well. If you know abstractions, it's still no use in the field if you can't use them in a real-world situation. More and more companies are realizing this, but most still require a bachelor's. On another note, if you want to pursue a job, pursue it only if you enjoy it. Incredibly true for programming and other tech jobs.
