How important is jQuery programming and Ruby programming and what are the differences between jQuery and other Java script?

jQuery is a JavaScript library, it has lots of neat features to help with development. Anything that can be done in jQuery can be done in JS. Ruby on the other hand is a general purpose programming language. Ruby on Rails is a back-end framework for developing websites. Alternatives to Ruby on Rails are PHP, node.js, asp.net, etc.
