Ever heard of Ruby on Rails it's the framework for web development which is most advanced than any other. To simplify for you, I work in Java, Python and Ruby so if you ask me which I prefer it's Python. but every language has it's odds as you look at Java or C the amount of code and readability is very tough but python and Ruby both are very easily readable. Which to choose... Well Ruby is like a magic wand you just have to point direction everything else is readily available and lines of code very less. Python is however is well documented and developers support is huge don't trust me just ask a question about python in stackoverflow.com and see it for yourself.

Of course it's a programming language. Easier to learn? Well as a C programmer, I cannot judge fairly. IMHO, Ruby is syntactically odd, Python is a mess. Python is probably a better choice simply because of popularity and demand.
