Java provides support for web application through Servlets and JSPs. And you will need to setup a Web Server to deploy your application.
There are also Java Web Frameworks that makes it easier, like Spring MVC, Spring Boot, GWT, Grails, etc.
I would recommend Spring Boot because its really easy to start.
You could also go for a REST architecture to develop and deploy your frontend independently from your backend.

I would suggest seeking out information about Java Enterprise Edition (JEE, formerly J2EE). You can do a lot with JSP pages, servlets, and various frameworks such as Spring.
