Which one is best IDE or text editor

it's a matter of taste. i can't recommend an ide for php but i found notepad++ to be an excellent editor for many languages.

i agree that an ide has some benefits. code completion, integrated compiler etc. helps you being quick and handling all from one place.

PHP? I would recommend JetBrains' PhpStorm IDE.

I found SublimeText 3 to be the best text editor. Even better than Notepad++. For an IDE, Eclipse is the best free option, Netbeans is also good.

JetBrains offer a very nice suite of applications for free to students. I think for everybody else it would be a paid for suite, however.
