Best OS?

Question

There are many OS out there, Windows, OSX, Linux, and many distributions for Linux but which is the best? Should I switch to a Linux distribution? If so is one better than the other or more secure? Most of the opinions I have heard point towards Windows not having good security. What are some pros and cons to OSX and Linux (or any Linux distros)?

The best OS is the one that your comfortable with (or willing to learn a lot in/from) or that your used to. All OSs have their pros and cons, and some of these are more important to the individual than others.

I had gone back and forth between Windows and Linux OSs/distributions. In fact, I spent about 2-3 yrs in Linux OS distros (distros of Ubuntu, like Linux Mint, mostly) with different Desktop Environments (DEs), like Gnome, Xfce, Mate, and Cinnamon. I liked how the interface/looked and the customizability of it. I also liked how you have the equivalent of the Windows user profile folder as your home directory folder, where you could get to and see all your stuff and program user files easily. I did for a time virtualized Windows on Linux using Virtual Box, too.

Ultimately, however, Windows (especially Windows 10, with the most recent updates and two third-party programs) works best for me and my hardware. Hardware compatibility/functionality and other little things is what really brought me back to Windows and I'm glad I'm back on it. I also like the direction and changes the new Microsoft is making in recent years. I have also followed a great, detailed security guide to harden my Windows system.

All the people that are serious about computers have Linux. There are many good distributions, like Linux Mint.

Uttam Manher Visual Studio Code runs on Linux, too. Also this is hardly a reason to choose your favourite OS

I've only used Linux for years because I really love the idea of open source, the customizability of Linux systems and the powerful command line. For more information you can read my answer to the post I added above :)

ive been using Linux since RedHat 95 was released.. back in '95. the OS itself has come along way since then and now there are tons of flavors. today i prefer to use ubuntu as my base install and then add on whatever programs and add-ons i need.

i absolutely loathe MS and iOS platforms. Linux FTW!

haha well kali isn't really designed for the casual user and also it has its own PPA, which means you're stuck with what they provide as far as software. it definently required some extended knowledge of the Linux platform. Ubuntu is designed more for the end-user. it has a software center where you can search and download all sorts of programs and apps with the click of your mouse. I would never recommend Kali as a starting point for a new linux user
