Python and Excel

Question

I heard a news several months ago. Is this an old news?
Microsoft is considering to add Python to Excel as an official scripting language.

Currently, it could be possible for Python to operate an Excel workbook by installing the module; OpenPyXL, xlwings, etc.
On the other hand, Microsoft Excel has been inseparably linked to VBA for many years.

I think "Excel with Python" is a good news particularly for non-programmers.(like me?)
This may be unimportant for professionals.

What do you think about it? rights and wrongs, realizability, influence, etc.
If you know a recent progress or fact about it, please provide here.

(I'm not really good at English conversation. But I can read & catch the vibe in English almost as well as in my mother language. In some sense, I might have merely wanted to make this question place.)

I can't wait to see that working by default. So far, there is the xlwings project that enables it.

didnt they announce that they are adding javascript to excel early this month?

Markus Kaleton is right: No python support announced. support for js is available as an addon for developers at the moment: it should allow to call custom js functions as a formula and the spreadsheet data would be handled by the js engine instead of excel. Makes sense with the whole cloud services switch Microsoft is investing into.
