Need some urgent help with searchbar on website

I made a search bar which is fine in every respect. I need help with it. whenever I click on it l, it refreshes the page every time I just click on it.
plus what is the code logic behind a searchbar

We can not help you if we cant see the actual code. But the only thing I can suspect is either a href attribute that is mistakenly placed somewhere or a javascript event
