Which is better for programmer: narrow specialization or wide profile?

One recommendation would be the "T" profile:
- aim to be an expert in one thing,
(That's the trunk of the T: deep knowledge on a narrower topic)
- whilst developing some skills in a number of other fields
( That's the bar of the T: less expertise, but on a wider range of subjects).

Depends on the type of job your looking for/applying too. Having deep knowledge of a subject is always a plus.
