I'm not certain about books anymore these days because of the internet, but I would recommend that you take some time and read through all of the documentation/tutorials/etc... on Java's website. That's always a great place to start. https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/

I would recommend Java: A beginner's guide by Herbert Schildt. It is an Oracle book. And as you advance, follow the Herbert Schildt series. The programs from the beginner's guide can be easily worked with here in the code playground.
