Why are Java and Javascript named so simular?

Everybody knows they are not the same. But why are they called so simulary? Just because the syntax?

Tim The reason for the naming similarity is that :: When JS was invented, it was criticised, and at that point, Java itself was booming and was very popular . So in a bid to gain popularity as well, they decided to make JS appear like the younger brother of Java, thereby naming it Javascript. As a result of the name change, it also grew popular, and everyone came to remember it as Javascript, not Livescript. Thus JS became its official name, and it's been stuck like that till date.
