Yes of course.
But if you want to dive deep into The world of Game development, you might actually consider these languages
1.C++:
Very fast, gives you full control of your program
2.C#:
Relatively easy to learn.Also allows for inter-operability
3.Java:
King of Android devices,easy to learn, write once run anywhere
4.Lisp:
World's most powerful programming language

absolutely yes, but to efficiently control your game engine + hardware u might consider D'lite source, though some of them are tricky, much typing &time consuming;

Arthur
What makes a programming language more powerful, other than its vast range of applications ?

In my perspective, the more powerful programming language is that which allows you to do anything once you learn it.
It's almost like a super power

D'lite Lisp isn't the most powerful but its a good language

Arthur Google it up, no arguments

Arthur you've googled it right ?

KrOW If you really don't know Lisp, don't judge.
You consider C++ as the most general purpose because you are familiar with it.
The people who called it "the world's most powerful programming language weren't JUST saying so for fun"
If you think am lying, grab the book called "The Land of Lisp" by www.nostarchpress.com
