It is the exponential operator. if you want to write for example x squared, you would do it like this: x**2

its very simple dude... ** is used to square the number. E.g. 5**2 = 5^2 = 25

Two of these **means an exponent. For example,if you want 2to the 3rd power you would write it like this: 2**3

it's exponential powers. like 2² = 2**2 , 3**2 = 3² , 4**2 = 4². these are the squares. for cubes 2**3 = 2³ , 3**3 = 3³ , and so on the power can be increased. and Python solves 2² {=4}
