How do you learn ALL this info and actually retain what you learned?

I just tried to type some of the codes that I've been learning the past few days and didnt get one right on the first try. Is it just me or is your first language complicated? I just started learning programming about a week ago, and pc's in general about 6 months ago and everything just seems so complicated and hard to understand when you want to be self taught and there's just so much to learn it almost seems overwhelming.....

After syntax, logical thinking is the next step. Also, it is actually quite hard to write code that works on the first try - coding is more about writing stuff, testing it and it fails so you tweak it. Then it fails and you tweak it. Then you decide a different design is better so you gradually rewrite the code. What coding is NOT is powertyping 100 wpm of top quality functioning code, that goes for us professional programmers too :)
