Can I get a programming job even if my major is not in computer science field?

I can only speak with confidence for the UK, but I have a programming job and majored in math. In fact there is generally surprisingly little content in CS that directly helps coding. You could achieve a high grade in CS doing no coding at all (I've interviewed masters and PhD graduates who simply can't code)

Of course you can! You can get involved with it in online communities, self learning and also free online courses you can take!
Computer Science is a lot about the fundamentals of almost everything associated with it. It is handy but not a requirement.
