@Given Lepita coding for hobby doesn't mean being a Script Kiddy. Coding for hobby could mean having other things to do in life and making some of these things easier using programming and hacking hardware with software to let cheap electronics do what expensive electronics can only dream of...
In my perspective coding as a hobby has a more romantic view than hardcore coding for earning money and keeping the world out.
To conclude, a hobby is a side activity someone does for passion and when you are passionate abouth something you are seriously involved with it.
Many Open Source projects are the result of side activity of passionate people that joined their efforts and limited resources to create something useful for everyone.

@seamiki Now that you said it, it actually makes a lot of sense, but people who contribute to open source, most of them are actually professionals who believe that information should be free.

The skill of coding is essential and should be taken serious not as a part time skill to impress one's friend. Use it to contribute to open source and not to code viruses etc.

1 - Well, I'm sort of in charge of an open source project for a game mod manager, KSP-CKAN. Apart from that, I'd like to write a program for DJing that uses nested playlists to make for easy handling of connected groups of tracks.

3 - I don't really have one. I've used so many different languages, and most of them are pretty much obsolete these days. My recent experience has all been C#, Perl and VBScript

4 - Well, I do occasional coding at work (that's where I've done the Perl and VBScript work), but my recent push into C# is definitely hobby level.

5 - Oooh, that's a tough one. Back in the day, I wrote a bunch of code for manipulating large statistical datasets in various ways. More recently, a bunch of relatively small Perl scripts to automate tasks (mostly to do with SMTP queries). The KSP-CKAN is written almost completely by other people. My own contributions so far have been fairly small. I concentrate more on the metadata used by the project.
