Best MySQL playground for Mac OS.

Is there any better learning environment other than xampp? I find xampp to be fairly easy to work with, setup, and delete. Iā€™m not savvy using the terminal doing roots and such. So is there a better way to practice MySQL without doing the roots? I only have one laptop and I donā€™t want to mess it up.

Hey there! not a Mac user, as such didn't really understand what you meant by 'roots', but if you want to work with MySQL in web interface you can use phpMyadmin, with that you don't have to use terminal console. Just ignore if this wasn't what you mean to ask : )

Fredric You're welcome, Yes it's what most MySQL users feared from the acquisition, especially knowing Oracle has their own DBMS, who knows if the step was taken to eliminate a product competitor (in a soft way), we never know, but thankfully the founder had foreseen this ahead of time, and came up with MDB as a solution for the "Just In Case" possibility.

Fredric Yes that's right, but don't be concerned, MariaDB is a forked project of MySQL, it is based on the same codebase and has the same features, there are minor insignificant differences. More details of the differences review can be read on the following links: https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/120178/whats-the-difference-between-mariadb-and-mysql P.S. That was no "dumb" question, it was curiosity, I've seen plenty of such "dumber" questions, and I can safely say this one is not : )

Rstar I am actually a fan of Jetbrainā€™s Pycharm. I havenā€™t really looked but I think the ones I saw for data is not free. I would have to take a second look. Thank you.

Fredric I guess most of those who had used MySQL before would pretty much agreed, but technically speaking, they do have the right to decide, *probably*, they have other plans that needed financing, and by the acquisition perhaps they can start the plan. Not at all, I am not a professional mate, am a hobbyist, I actually just learning here, no particular software, am using just a phone : ) Good decision! the path you're interested in is the trend for the future šŸ‘

Ipang Root in terminal. You mentioned phpmyadmin. I saw that to be part of Xampp. But the new version of Xampp removed MySQL and replaced it with MariaDB?

Rstar I already have Workbench. Looks solid. Iā€™ve just looked at sequelpro. It looks good. Which of the two do you find easier and less minumal setup to use? Iā€™m also concern with security. Any tips and tricks?

Ipang Thank you. So MDB is the Plan B. The ā€œJust In Caseā€ Oracle goes bonkers on MySQL. That would suck if it did. I wish and hope not, because Iā€™m starting to love the MySQL syntax and structure.

Ipang I would think that it was a bad move to sell MySQL to Oracle. Since MDB was created, the founders most likely did not have a say on what could happen to MySQL. So I guess I need to learn MDB as well. I hope the MDB founder learned his lesson. If you donā€™t mind ne asking, what programming software you use and for what purpose? In laymans term. The path I am looking to get into is Data scientist, analyst and AI.
