Which hardwares and softwares resources are recommended for a balance?

I will make a balance to(or "for". Sorry, I dunno much of English) a hospital with my friends. We already did the list of things, but I would like to confirm with someone that understands about area.
Our goal is create a balance attached to the stretcher that weighs patients without the need to remove them from the bed.
With this, the patients' mass will displayed (how a common balance), else storage It a database (the datas will use to make statics).

Any help is welcome. If someone know books, web sites or any another material, would typs here? Thank you so much ✌✌

To be frank I have a bit Idea about ARDUINO this is just like a small computer which works with any sensor........you could integrate ARDUINO with your Lcd display to show data you will need API (application program interface) that will calculate the force being applied on the surface and give its output...

Hello, are you doing a prototype?
Well I think you gonna need more than one "load cells" with strain gages distributed by the bed and a board like arduino. The loads cells will need be well fixed and aligned. Keep in touch if I cound help.
