Sorting of players in a challenge
When you create a challenge you get to pick an opponent from a list of players. Is there a logic in the sequence in which these players are displayed? Last seen on sololearn, last engaged in a challenge, nearest players, ... or is it simply random ?

They (the algorithm) potentially check(s) the level of challenge activity in the given language of different players and those with higher recent activity must get higher weight. I say this because the most likely time I get incoming challenges in a language is when I have been participating in challenges in the same language moments before.

I think its quite random. I played three challenges right now with random opponents and all those were too much random.

Francisco Ramos if you wait until you see the proposed list of opponents then you can choose yourself who you challenge. That is sometimes better then a random opponent.

I think it just gets people who recently challenged (plus some other factors). I remember that once when I challenged someone I found that person at the top of the recommendation list.

I think all those got recently challenged. Because when I choose it randomely and I finish the challenge and see their activity that they recently finish a challenge with another user (no matter with the level)

Usually, the players who appear on top in the challenge list, are the one who recently completed the challenge with others

I keep on getting the same guy everytime I choose "random" opponent... that guy only makes 5's. I don't know how to avoid him.

From my observations, not only does it display your name in the list if you recently completed a challenge in that language, but you must also be online to be shown, and preference is also given to people you follow / are following you. I can't prove it 100%, but that is what I've been noticing... Cheers.

The first person you see is the recently concluded challenge that's why the person is first.
But when you click random, it selects at least the first 10 concluded challenges.
I think that's how it works.

If you are challenging then your name will be there for people to challenge you. If you are inactive, you won't be there.
