What are simple things for me to program so I can practice?

Hey, I am trying to learn python and I consistently write code and try things out as I go through a lesson on this app or youtube. But heres the situation, I'll write anything from a calculator to different "what if" stories. But there is only so much I can do with this. I'm wondering when you started off programming, what did you make with your code that helped you gain a better understanding of the language? I'm fine with just a list, but feel free to explain what is needed to know(Import modules, etc...) in order to start the project you might propose.
