Linux Mint is Ubuntu based... in it's common distribution. But there is a Debian Edition by Mint team, called LMDE ( Linux Mint Debian Edition ). And Ubuntu is Debian based also: Debian / \ | | V V Ubuntu LMDE | V Linux Mint There's a lot of Linux of Ubuntu based ( means modified Ubuntus ), and more much of Debian 'flavour'. LMDE2 is a good one ( I love the file handler 'nemo', fork of 'nautilus' and default file browser of cinammon desktop ). Ubuntu or Mint, same for me, Mint having tiny disadvantage by being one linux with a layer more ( but a cool desktop ). Debian original is for purists: provide all the necessary, but ask for much engagement to customize, so are the purpose of all the Linux inherited from Debian. Notice that when we say 'Linux', we don't talking right, as we should say 'GNU/Linux': https://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.en.html

Kali Linux kills the two, look for it because it has most of the programming tools already installed for you and its rated number 1 operating system according to the hackers community
