Are there still needs for an upcoming programmer to learn BASIC?
The world is developing daily in technology and a 100L computer science student is being taught BASIC in the University, is this right?

I don't see the relevancy, but if it's been taught you need to learn it and pass the cause, C would have been preferable or python

CMD i think they will be taught C++ but not the important stuff I guess

I can say Yes, because you'll learn where all began and how much worked developers from that times so you can use today very easy a programming language like python to make everything on a stable and well organized software.

*AsterisK* ...lng tym! ...May I ask why you think C should be concidered?

CMD its been awhile, C is tough though but if you can get through it, you can get through most high level language, and it's like in between, you know whats happening benit you and above you

Well *AsterisK* ...I've been opportuned to teach in a University for quite a few years *though not computer science dept. I've witness bureaucracy at its peak, which is Y I wont blame most students (esp in developed countries) opting out of d system. But in contrary to 'C' I'd rather prefer 'C++' should be taught, cos if you ask me, students need to know abt OOP which 'C' lacks. Moreso I wont really go for .py cos it doesnt really teach d nitty-gritty (which are hidden under d hood-"comes with its batteries included") its equally lacking in making students understand d core concepts such as pointers and memory mgt e.t.c. While d<world is moving towards Functional programming I think its equally pertinent to know where the world has been in regards to computing. Programming styles<such as Proceadural equally should not be totally forgotten. All these 3 concepts C++ imbibes, which encourages its utility in most coding competitions such as ICPC and google code jam

We'll be taught C++

I think that BASIC is a prerequisite, and it will aldo be of some good if you knew some of it. It might help in some codibg in the future, for thougher algorithims.

Programming languages don't matter (for the most part). Algorithms matter.
