I think this course will help you a lot with JavaScript

There's really no precise answer to your question, because there are many factors that need to be considered in order to calculate average time.
If you want to learn basics then maybe 1 week or 1 month, sometimes 6 month or even more, and what do we even mean by "basics". If you want to be a real professional then you will definitely need to study and practice more than 2 years, actually if you want to be an expert you will probably have to "dedicate" your life to programming :D
Honestly, it doesn't matter.
Only thing that matters is that you START and to be PERSISTENT!
Start with course on Khan Academy (or some other course) watch one or two videos, read comments, and practice every day. After couple of weeks you will see results, and the best part of this result is that you will see your determination, that you continually studied something every single day, that's the best part in my opinion.

I feel you. Im the same way still. beginner.

Btw, here's what im doing to calm me down a little bit:
I downloaded an app called " Grasshopper " . it's an app for j.s beginners. I used it for a while and i went to w3School and im on the string methods right now.
