Does age mather when starting?

Question

Does age mather to become a good programmer? I am currently 31 and just started to learn java, with no coding experience at all.

I rolled into my current job, and doing it for almost 8 years now. It is fun, but it is not what I really want to do for the rest of my life.

Man, I'm 37 and started learning Python in September 2016. Already coded three simple PC games (Pong, Memory and BlackJack) with a nice GUI and I'm just starting to roll :)

It only matters when you stop learning! I am 72 and just got my first Raspberry Pi 3 and am learning Raspian (Linux) and Python for the first time! It, like all endeavors that are worthwhile, is challenging, frustrating and very satisfying. You just have to hang in there and don't ever never give up.

You could potentially also combine your experience and knowledge of other industries/jobs by making apps that solve problems or make things easier for those jobs. You might know a niche that other people wouldn't think of.

Do you have ever listen about "slight edge" method? :) If you feel confident in English let's try to read the Jeff Olson book "The Slight Edge" or maybe let's try to search a Web in your language to know sth more about it ;) ;)

The most important thing is to code every day for 1,5h in your case :) because look: after 1 year you will code for 365 days * 1,5 h = 547,5 h :) and I'm sure you will be glad of your progress :) :)

I live in the Netherlands, but my English is ok. I will look for it.

I want to spend more hours a day, but I also have a 2 year old kid. In about 3 weeks we are expecting our 2nd child.

But with hard work, dedication and some dreams we will reach our goal !!!

nope. the important thing is, it is not how good you are. It is how good you want to be.
I am 36 years old lady, with a toddler, and now learning javascript. "free time " to study is very expensive.
Just set your goal high. And go for it.

In simple words, No. Age doesn't depend on learning. Journey is important than destination. The early you start the better I believe because you get ample time to learn and make mistakes.

I think if you really have the sprit then age is just a number for you. It is never too late or too early(like in my case). I started learning programming back when I was 11. Now I'm 16 and fairly good in developing web applications based on PHP and AJAX technology.

don't worry about it! If you feel a pull toward coding then go for it, enjoy it and let the passion develop. It's never too late, my father (53) has started learning too and is just started 2nd year of his bENG (hons) in electronic engineering :)

The age doesn't really matters! Man, i have 16 year old and i started coding with Javascript since 2016. And already i'm developing a videogame in construct2!. The only thing that is important is your motivation and passion for doing what you love. Don't hear the bad comments that people do, like "you're too young/old", because allways is time to learn! Never give up!

age doesn't really matter, its about effort. i started programming around 7 years old, I'm sixteen now and the only reason I'm not farther or better is because i just recently felt motivated and am now actually learning and working to be a better programmer. it doesn't matter if you are a kid or an adult if you work hard and really want to program.

i dont think so... best way is practice and learn like different different teachers(youtube), books...
