Phyton for data science?

Hello everybody!

I know that some people use python in data science tasks.
Question - Why are some data scientists using it?
Is phyton really this capable of really heavy data science calculations?

yes, for simple example just check numpy and matplotlib for the data analytics.

python intially developed as a scripting language has enlarged its domain. Its now used as scripting language, UI dev, data analysis(in Pandas , Machine learning etc) , better interface with the noSQL(big data).
