is html the definition of useless?

slick HTML still worth learning.
You can't learn CSS , JS and many other web languages without knowing HTML.

If anyhow you learn other web languages there will be no point in using them without HTML.

HTML is the first language any web developer start to learn.

Maybe your friend want you to learn app development //not web

So if you want to develop apps you'll better learn Kotlin and Java.
In this case you don't need to learn HTML.
