%(modulo) operator returns remainder: 56 = 0*90 + 56, so 56 is left as remainder after dividing 56 with 90

% this operator is used to get remainder. So when we compute the expression it will 0 as quotient as the denominator is greater than numerator and hence 56 is left which is returned as remainder. Hope it helped :D
