There's no such thing as a "best" programming language to use. Every language has its own specific uses, and sometimes one language trumps another when trying to solve certain problems. However...
Easiest to learn: HTML, Python3, SQL & Ruby
Harder but more useful: PHP, C++ & Java
Newer (and thus less complex): Python3 & Ruby
Older (but still important to know for analyzing old code): Java, Assembly & C
What you choose to use is entirely up to your preference, but you first need to decide if you want to do web development or software development before you make your choices.

Adding to what Eli (I accept all challenges!) said, it is also beneficial when writing code to know older languages, because in these languages you need to take care of memory management. In newer languages, this is done automatically however, if you know what the language is doing behind the scenes you can write more efficient code.
