Sadly ruby has a small community when you go out of rails. But rails is a way for you to land a web dev job. I would say most demanding career is web dev. I switched my life from game dev to web dev due to less demands in the field. Web's future is always bright. Ruby,Python,Php,Javascript, and much more along with c# and java deeply stands inside backend dev. I wouldn't recommend java tho. (my personal opinion)
