When should I use MATLAB and when Python?

MATLAB for mathematical and engineering modelling. Python for general programming as well as many specialised areas.

Yes Python is taking over the world, except for performance critical areas.

Anything you can do with MATLAB, you can do with Python. It’s just not always the simplest way to do it. Some things are less complicated in MATLAB, but I still prefer Python.
