using linux command and gnu software inside a ruby script

can i using «ls» command or «wget» gnu software inside ruby script ?
actually , can i using ruby instead of bash , and use all of Linux commands and Gnu Software ?
because i very love ruby and gnu/linux , but not bash.

funny, bash is a key to operate linux, maybe you dont like bash, but you do need a shell instead, you can try some other shells like zsh
