You can think the left side of the dot as the owner of the right side of the dot, where the right side of the dot is just like any variable or function name.

Example triangles have hypotenuse, triangle is the owner of the hypotenuse.
It would be represented as:

triangle.hypothenuse

Where hypothenuse is just a variable, that belongs to the triangle object.
