How are rewards for challenges calculated?

When Losing and Winning the challenges there is a large difference between the points you get.I completed a challenge where I lost the challenge and had deducted 27xp.for the same opponent I played a rematch and won Then I was given only 5 xp.Dont you think there should should be a proper way to reward the challenges.

The information in the FAQ was already outdated when I came here almost two years ago. The decisive factor is *not* your levels, but the amount of xp both of you have accumulated *only in this one language*! So I might be level 16, but I never play HTML and I suck at it. You might be level 8, but you have done a lot of HTML challenges and have way more points than me. If you win, you will get only a few points, but if you lose, you'll lose a lot. Because you're the favourite. Although your level is lower. This is how it really is. Please help me spread the word to everyone who still doesn't know this!

By Gawen Steasy : From the Sololearn FAQ: How are XPs calculated in the Challenges? The XPs you gain/lose are unique to each match. Calculations take the opponents' experience in corresponding language(gained xp's). We use a modified version of the Elo rating system to calculate the points for each won/lost challenge. You can learn more about the Elo rating system here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system edit: system updated to taking count xp earned. not by level.

It totally depends on your lvl. Your opponent is surely on a lower lvl. So when you win you only get 5 xp but when you lose you lost a large amount of xp. Win against a platinum, you will also get a large amount of xp.
