What does no activity means in Android Studio?

Hi, I am completely new in programming and I want to start learning in the program Android Studio. When I want to start a new project, I have to choose from several options: add no activity, basis activity, empty, full screen,... If I understand correctly, these are all options on how you want your first screen to look like. And when you choose one, android studio gives you a folder structure and you have to start writing in the folder main activity. But what does the option 'add no activity' means? It doesn't seems to have the folder 'main' wich I thought you needed to get starting?
