Can i use Google maps API without paying

I want display user information or location on Google maps I had generated key from Google cloud site , but the key always return invalidkey in Javascript console , maybe one must pay to use this key I Don't know

The first question the first 28,000 searches with the Javascript API is free... as to the premium commercial apis yes there are fees...
