How do I change my Computer's OS to Linux from Windows ?

Question

I would like to have the Linux kernel on my computer. However, I am confused if I have to uninstall Windows then download Linux as I am afraid of what might happen if I uninstall Windows. Additionally, I know that I can first install a hypervisor then install Linux on top of it, but again I am worried it will take too much space. What should I do, someone kindly help, thank you in advance.

Thank you, but why off topic though ? I thought it is related to programming stuff, like knowing what software is needed and how to install it. Like, Linux is best for programming, right ?
