Coding in networking.
For those of you who are familiar with networking I have a question. How much programming does networking involve and what languages are mainly used? To be an ethical hacker I figure one must not only know how coding works in scripts, apps, software etc... but also in networking. So in networking where does programming come into play?

You should know server side programming languages, (commonly used back-ends) e.g. node.js, python, ruby on rail, java.
Also Database (NoSql and Sql)
Maybe you should know bash or Linux (e.g Kali linux has a lot of Penetrationtesting tools or ParrotOS)
Also know how to use TOR (for privacy and anonymousy)
And know about laws - you don't want to bet into prison
and some more I cant think of right now, but I'll add them when I remember

I am very familiar with Kali Linux it's the only pen testing tool I've used beside black box. And yes your right bash is very involved in networking I can't believe I forgot about that one.
After I posted I researched and I found out I can write scripts in python deal with server sockets, top clients and top connection. This is gonna take alot of focus lol, thanks for your answer.
